In April 2017, Steven created the hashtag #ProudToBeAPMP to give bid and proposal professionals a simple way to publicly express pride in our profession and our community. His idea behind the hashtag was straightforward, to share a positive and inclusive marker that anyone in our profession could use regardless of role, tenure, seniority, certification level, or location.

After almost ten years, #ProudToBeAPMP stands as a small and powerful reminder that professional pride matters, not only in celebrating business-winning success, but in recognising the expertise, experience, and dedication of bid and proposal professionals that make success happen.

In 2019, Rick Harris, APMP CEO said "Two years ago, we started seeing the #ProudToBeAPMP hashtag. It grew organically and its origins were traced back to APMP HQ board of directors member Steven Coles who first posted it in 2017. Today, the hashtag is widely used across APMP and was recently the centrepiece of a video at APMP’s Bid and Proposal Conference 2019 in Orlando, FL. That’s when we learned how many people felt this way about APMP.
